Attached to this article you will find the files that will enable you to create your own IA in styrene. You should be able to track down a friendly laser etcher through the Yellow Pages, take these files to them with some 0.5mm styrene and be up and running in no time.
Two files are provided; The first is a cutting template where the laser will cut right through the styrene, the second is the raster template, where the laser will score a line. Also included is a license that controls the distribution of these files. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ IT! A more user friendly version is included on the "Read More" link below.
If you are unable to do so, I am able to provide a sheet of parts for $20 (includes material, cutting and postage). Contact me here if you are interested.
I will soon update this article with a photo essay detailing how the wagon can be assembled, but please dont let that stop you! Feel free to have a go and see how you get on....and let others know!
UPDATE: I've also uploaded the plan from the KiwiRail Fleet Catalouge for the IA 1.
Finally, a few words. I am putting these files out here in this way to start people thinking about ways to further grow the scale. By offering what is in effect the countries first "Open Source" wagon, my intentions are to introduce younger people to the hobby who may have grown up with plastic kitsets and trains, but who arent quite ready for the leap to scratchbuilding or brass models. I hope this will be the first of many to be offered in this way here at Nz120.org.
Now the fine print:
- These are not kits! This process will create for you a set of parts which will help you create an IA container wagon in NZ120 scale. As such, certain bits remain for the builder to do. These are headstocks (so you can choose your own coupler mount), bogie mounts (although a simple mount is included), twistlock representations, handrails and handbrakes.
