I've been thinking about one of these for years as it fits in with the era I model rather than the Standard, Vulcan or Fiat railcars. The thought of replicating the stainless steel finish always put me off. I'll be interested to see how you go with your model. I was actually looking at a brochure this evening with a mate on metallic finishes. Alu-cad I think the product was called.

For anybody building a silver fern its definately harder than it looks, but keeping in mind the tips from DFT in a day concept its quite dooable.

The Chassis is from a Graham Farish Class 158 2 Unit DMU.

This might help with the ends, its a rough template i used to get my head around whats required.

Will upload a pic of the Passenger unit when its finished, working on windows at the moment but the corrogated bits are mostly finished.

Are you going to make the body from printed card? I saw an article in one of the British railmodel magazines I get about Blackpool trams constructed from printed card. Very effective they looked too.

I  built a 1 end mokup back in the 90s, I used a SD 40-2 with 1 truck removed.

with a layout 1m wide i found the wheel was to long to look good so i cand the project.
