what ? are diesel engines normally just sitting on the truck bolster w/o any fixation ?
lightly chained on ,On DCP It to stop them from detaching from the loco and going through the side of the carage.
I remember the southerner hit a sheep truck and its DC bogie skined the carige after ditaching from the loco.
Caught DCP4559 on camera the other day, hauling a coal shuttle from Lyttelton:

hmmm I saw a MAXX Dc come through Levin the other day, not sure the number as i was on my way to work.
I thought it was strange an Auckland Based loco was down this end of the country.
I saw one heading north between Otaki and Levin a few weeks ago. Perhaps they are doing overhauls/upgrades/repairs at Hutt?

on the subject of locos-out-of-region, was surprised while heading into Wellington along the Hutt road this week just gone, to glimpse a passing DH in the Q-shunt (is it still called that?) heading out Hutt Workshops way. I was so surprised to see it can't even remember which livery!
oh, and gummy-joe, that's a cracker shot of DCP4559!
Just to leap in here (more so to prove I am still alive than anything else), 4939 was the MAXX liveried DC in at Hutt for a main alternator change (as per Kiwibonds blog post on MD) and 2822 in "Bumble Bee" is the DH in for a rebuild to give it MU connectors etc like the two Green liveried puppies currently haunting Auckland.

sorry this is getting a bit off-topic but thanks am-fet. So it'll come out looking like 2868? Love that KiwiRail livery. Nice to know what's going on - I live in the valley and work all around the Wellington area so quite often catch fleeting glimpses of the Hutt shunts either at Woburn or along the Hutt road on the way in or out of town. One day I want to model Woburn as it's a good excuse to run just about anything. Won't exactly be a scenic wonderland though!

Thanks SteveF! I had to race it through the tunnel to get this shot in Heathcote, and I'm pretty pleased with the result
