IA container flat details

Gummy-Joe's picture

I am presently constructing one of Am_Fet's impressive little IA container flats, and would appreciate some help with details.

I am a little unsure about the brake arrangements. Looking at photos, they seem to have a rather large brake reservoir on one side of the wagon – does anybody have a detail photo of this arrangement?

Also, what is the best method to making a handbrake wheel for these wagons (and other wagons with handbrake wheels like Fm vans)? Or are they available for purchase somewhere. I've looked on the TG website, but they don't seem to have brake wheels... :-S

First, some new tools:

Soldering Iron and Flux.jpg

Temperature controlled soldering iron from Dick Smith: $12 (normally $16)

Weldwell Flux 100ml bottle from the soldering section of the Tool Shop at Bunnings: $15

These have made a huge difference to assembling TG kits recently. I am using an H&M Clipper as the power source for the soldering iron. I thought that some of you may be interested in these items given the number of Dick Smith stores around, and Bunnings' presence in larger centres.

Anyway,

This is one of the projects that I've been chipping away at for a while now:

Trackgang XP wagon

Today we have another review of a Trackgang kit. This time its the XP. I initially brought this to investigate the possibility of converting it to an Xa. 30 seconds after I opened the packet that plan went the way of the dodo. The only thing left? Build it as god intended (well, almost).

The box (Tauranga to Nelson in 24 hrs) contained the following bits. The casting are, as one would expect, crisp with very little flash.
